If you've been reading the blog lately, you'll know that I just finished the living room makeover (read all about it here) and after spending quite a bit on new flooring and building works, I had to be creative with the accessories I already had at home to decorate the room. I had a few candlestick holders, and I had some plain candles, but they just didn't seem... interesting enough.
So I looked through my paint cupboard and found a neon pink rust-oleum paint pot and my oh-so-loved gold spray paint. That was it, I decided to make my own half-painted candles!
It was the easiest DIY accessory ever, you can do the same in just a few minutes!
Here's all you will need: candles, paint, a brush (if using the paint pot) and painters tape.
First I did the neon pink one, using the pot paint and a brush.

The cotton balls are in case you decide to create an ombré effect, you can start painting at the bottom with the brush then use the cotton balls to carry the paint up in a lighter tone.
Start painting each candle at the bottom and make your way up to just below half.
Then hold the brush horizontally half way through the candle and slowly turn the candle around until you have done a straight line. If you prefer, you can use painters tape to definitely make sure that line is straight!

And that's it! Leave the candles to stand until you they are dry.
Next I did the spray painted gold candles. This way was bit messier but equally as easy!
Use frog tape to cover all the areas of the candles that you don't want to be painted.
Frog tape is so easy to use
Shake your spray paint can and then start spraying from about 30cm away, turn the candle continuously with your hand to make sure you cover the entire surface.
Leave them to dry, I used a small glass to hold them all upside down and it worked fine.
And here is the finished product!! They're stunning and a lot more interesting than the plain white candles they were before!
Next I'll be painting some of my coloured candles for a colour block look...
