Two years ago I had no idea how much things were about to change. I never even thought back then about toddler-proofing rooms, let alone all the details that go into it.
Our daughter was born 17 months ago and SO MUCH has changed since! We obviously wouldn't have it any other way, but I now think of every single proofing detail when I'm decorating a room, whether the furniture can safely be attached to the wall to prevent tipping, or using toddler-proof accessories to decorate my fire surround (it does take a bit of compromising...)
A huge amount of detail is in the window coverings. I don't normally go for heavy curtains. Especially in the lounge as I'm going for a minimalistic scheme that's very fitting for our family life right now. So my go-to option was to get some blinds! But what about all those cords?? Not a fan of the cords!
When I was asked by orderblinds.co.uk if I wanted to review their vertical blinds, the time could not have been better! Their child-friendly options are great and so CORDLESS, just what i needed for my family scandi room! So I placed my order and couldn't wait to get it!
Mr. Room Alive was the one to install them and he said they were easy to measure and put up, one of the easiest we've had actually! That's great feedback coming from someone that has zero liking for DIY! And the result was stunning...
The one I chose is the Rigid PVC Vertical Blinds in Ridged White. I chose white as I wanted the focus of the room to be on the colours that we are adding such as blush and teal, a hint of brass and pastels! So it is perfect. And it couldn't look further from office-space and closer to homely-and-cosy! It has a textured ridge pattern that makes it modern and cool.
The wand mechanism is what allows them to be super child-friendly (and pet-friendly for that matter), there are no cords in sight! Because I chose to have a wand instead of cords, it means all the panes stack up to one side, in our case the right side. Even though you can control the light & privacy you get with these blinds, I also chose to have some light curtain panels for added texture.
